Prioritise your health and wellbeing by registering to a GP during your studies.
Starting university is an exciting chapter in your life; moving to a new city, meeting new people, settling into your coursework.
One of the most crucial (and often forgetten) steps is signing up to a General Practitioner (GP) and a dentist. This can feel like a big first step into your independence and can seem overwhelming, but this article will help you to understand the process.
Fact: On average, in a year students spend more weeks at their University address than their home address.
Finding a GP
To find your closest GP, you can use the NHS website. International students studying in the UK for more than 6 months are able to access the NHS.
Whilst you're free to register with any doctor you choose, you can also register with BCU's healthcare provider, Modality Partnership. They are a national partnership of GP practices who have three locations in the centre of Birmingham. Use the link below for more info:

Finding a dentist
You can also use the NHS website to find your closest dental practice. You will need to register with them directly, or contact them to book your first appointment. Remember - most dental procedures are only subsidised by the NHS. More details and a link to find your local practice can be found using the link below:

Mental Health Support
University life can be stressful and many students experience mental health challenges. Your GP can offer valuable support for issues like anxiety and depression. They can provide counseling, medication, or referrals to mental health specialists who can offer specialised care.
The University's Mental Health and Wellbeing Team are available exclusively for BCU students. They offer appointments Monday - Friday from 9am-5pm.
