As we approach the end of the year, here’s a round-up of what Reps have been up to across campus!
Rep Cafe
An event organised by Ashween Kaur, your VP Student Voice, giving Reps the chance to connect with each other and University leadership. Reps also got answers to burning questions about University, their course, and student life, from BCU’s Vice-Chancellor; David Mba.
"Thanks to everyone who attended an event this year, it's great to see how all the Reps have grown throughout the year and built a community" - Ashween, Vice President Student Voice

Feedback Success Stories
Here’s some changes Reps have made this year by collecting feedback to improve their course:
Royal Birmingham Conservatoire
- RBC students found their Disability Support Statements (DSS) didn't allow adjustments to their practical assessments. Their Course and Lead Reps worked with Vice President Equity & Inclusion and the Disability Support team to review and improve DSSs for RBC students. One suggestion, raised by the student who highlighted this issue, was to introduce rest breaks during performances.
- The Lead Rep for Music worked closely with RBC leadership and VP Academic Experience to develop new Department Reps for RBC Music, allowing those students to be better represented where it matters to them the most
City Centre Campus
- Course Reps in Architecture wrote a student report and conducted guided tours to the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), helping ensure their courses were re-accredited by the Institute. Meaning BCU Architecture graduates will continue to have their degrees accredited from RIBA
Across campuses
- Reps across University used the Ideas Board to raise issues with marking, and the quality of feedback given on assessments. Working with VP Academic Experience, a long-term plan has been developed with University leadership to address the issues and improve practices
- Reps have worked with BCU and BCUSU staff to influence change and improvements to the Rep system and raise awareness fro Reps. From choosing hoodie designs, giving feedback to change and adapt Rep training, to weighing in on the usefulness of university committees
Rep Christmas Party – a festive thank you
Being a Course Rep isn’t only about being a voice for students but also about being a part of a community. To end the year, we hosted our first Rep Christmas Party, with fun quizzes, creative festive workshope and food and treats.
Our end of year party was a celebration of Rep accomplishments and hard work this year!
