What is BCUSU?

We are looking for a new external trustee to join our Trustee Board. We encourage applications from a wide variety of experiences, but are looking for candidates with specialist background in finance, HR or organisational risk management experience.
As an External Trustee you'll have independent control over, and legal responsibility for, our charity’s management and administration. You will utilise your personal and professional skills, experience and knowledge to support and assist BCUSU in developing and delivering our strategy and achieving our organisational goals.
BCUSU Trustees have ultimate responsibility for ensuring good governance, ensuring organisational compliance in all areas of legislation, policy and procedure, and ensuring that the Board reaches structured and sound decisions.
Trustees will ensure BCUSU is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit and complies with its Articles of Association, byelaws, charity law, and other relevant legislation and regulations, as well as ensuring proper use within the charity's objectives.
This is an exciting time to join BCUSU as we launch and implement our new strategic direction, and you could have signficant impact in our future operations.
Principle purpose of role:

Ultimately responsible for directing the affairs of BCUSU

Ensure that BCUSU is well run and delivers the objectives for which it has been set up

Ensure that BCUSU works for, and with, its membership in all that it does

Role expectations:

Attend all Trustee Board meetings, where possible, in person

Attend sub-committees as agreed at the start of each academic year

If two meetings are missed within a 12-month period, the CEO will arrange review meeting to discuss feasibility of the role. If a further meeting is missed, the trustee will be deemed to have resigned

Attend for the duration of the meeting in order to effectively participate.

Undergo annual performance review led by the Chair of the Board.

Complete statutory compliance requirements in a timely manner.
