Join us and WMAS’s lead research paramedic Josh Miller on the 1st May 2025 for an extremely interesting insight into strokes, and the trials held in an attempt to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of a prehospital specialist redirection pathway (SPEEDY trial), and a study to identify biomarkers to differentiate between strokes and mimics (GHoSt).
Here’s some background on Josh, and his many accomplishments! 👇🏽
Josh qualified as a paramedic in 2012 and has worked for West Midlands Ambulance Service since then. He was part of the NHS Leadership Academy’s first cohort of the Mary Seacole Programme for aspiring leaders. After completing this programme, he worked in two operational management roles, before being seconded to his current role in the Trust’s clinical research team. He has worked as a research paramedic on randomised controlled trials including PARAMEDIC2, RIGHT-2 and ACUTE. He has also conducted smaller studies into ambulance staff views of teamwork during out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, and an exploratory interview study into how ambulance service managers identify potentially traumatised staff. He is currently working on the PARAMEDIC-3 study (intravenous versus intraosseous cardiac access in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest) and the SPEEDY study (direct admission to stroke thrombectomy centres).
