"The first Pride was a riot. Since then, we've made enormous progress across the world in the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights. This is something to be celebrated, but we can't rest on our laurels. LGBTQ+ people are under still under attack; our rights, freedoms, and very lives are at risk. Pride is a chance for us to remind the world that we exist. It's a chance to stand up and be counted, to protest against our systemic oppression while at the same time celebrating our victories and mourning our losses." - The LGBTQ+ Society
For their second social of the month, the LGBTQ+ Society is hosting a crafting session. Whether you're an ally or a member of the community, you'll be able to get tips on how to craft the perfect Pride sign at home, and have tips on how to take the best outfit selfie for the Parade! Get in touch with them via Facebook (click here) to get involved.
The LGBTQ+ Society usually takes part in the annual parade by Birmingham Pride, and Covid-19 hasn't stopped them being proud of who they are. Hosting our first ever online pride, they'll be taking over BCUSU's social media on the 27th and 28th of June to celebrate why pride is important, and sharing out your protest signs/outfit selfies to students across BCU!
