"The first Pride was a riot. Since then, we've made enormous progress across the world in the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights. This is something to be celebrated, but we can't rest on our laurels. LGBTQ+ people are under still under attack; our rights, freedoms, and very lives are at risk. Pride is a chance for us to remind the world that we exist. It's a chance to stand up and be counted, to protest against our systemic oppression while at the same time celebrating our victories and mourning our losses." - The LGBTQ+ Society
Birmingham Pride may have been postponed until September, but LGBTQ+ Society is taking over our Instagram all weekend to make sure your voice is heard. Whether you're an ally or a member of the community, get involved by submitting selfies with your protest signs, outfits, or flags either before the parade, or by tagging @yourbcusu on the day. If you're short on ideas, why not reach out to them on Facebook (click here) or attend their crafting session on the 17th (click here)?
